Chinese buyers buy Ukrainian corn

Mon Feb 17 2020

Chinese buyers made purchases of Ukrainian-origin corn in the past week, following deals for French wheat reported last week, European traders said on Friday.

Traders said at least 200,000 tonnes of Ukrainian corn was bought by China, with some estimates going up to 500,000 tonnes.

“Sales of Ukrainian corn to China take place regularly but it is raising eyebrows that China continues to buy in Europe, despite the coronavirus, instead of in the US despite the Phase 1 trade deal," one European trader said.

Deals for Ukrainian corn were reported at $180 to $182 a tonne FOB or about $212 to $215 a tonne c&f China for February/March shipment.
