Export of oilmeals between April & June ’18 up by 9% to 6,54,774 ton
Tue July 10 2018
The export of oilmeals during
June 2018 was provisionally reported at 1,66,833 ton compared to 2,51,124 ton in June 2017. The overall
export between April and June 2018 was reported at 6,54,774 ton compared to
5,99,346 ton during the same period of last year, i e up by nine per cent.
This was stated by Solvent
Extractors’ Association of India, which compiled the data for the export of
oilmeals for the month of June 2018. The export of rapeseed meal sharply
increased to nearly 1,35,000 ton (90 per cent) in the first three months,
mainly exported to South Korea and Thailand.
The ongoing trade dispute between
the United States and China has created a lot of uncertainty, forcing China to
look out to other origins for their requirements of soybean and oilmeals.
China has been compelled to
relook the ban it imposed on the import of oilmeals from India since 2012. This
will open up the Chinese market for India. Of course, this is subject to
clarification about the phytosanitary certificate for the export of oilmeals
from India.
The Association has requested the
Ministry of Commerce, Government of India to seek clarification from China’s
AQSI Q authority about the phytosanitary certificate conditions.
Prior to the ban in 2012, China
used to import nearly half-a-million ton of oilmeals, viz 3.5 to 4 lakh ton of
rapeseed meal and one lakh ton of soybean meal from India.
