Govt to enhance import limit on tur to 4 lakh metric tonne for 2019-20

Thu July 11 2019

The government has decided to enhance the import limit on tur under quantitative restriction from two lakh MT (LMT) to four LMT for the year 2019-20.

It has decided to release two LMT of tur (whole) available in the buffer stock of pulses under the price stabilisation fund (PSF) to states/UTs (Union Territories) as well as through open market operations.

The government of India signed a MoU (Memorandum of Understanding), valid for five years, with the Republic of Mozambique, in July 2016 to improve the domestic availability and facilitate price stability of tur and other pulses.

This information was given in a written reply by Danve Raosaheb Dadarao, minister of state for consumer affairs, food and public distribution, in the Lok Sabha recently.
